The concert is the finale of Harpfest. It's a weekend for musicians, including master classes; maintenance sessions with a nationally known technician, Eric Rase; a recital for Harpfest attendees by Margaret Lynn Williams, harpist for the Lyric Opera of Chicago; and a group dinner.
Although pre-registration is required, events in Harpfest are free: "We're one of the few organizations left in the world who offer this free, and I'm proud of that,"said Dickie Fleisher, founder of the event.
Usually, the public participation is at the concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Naples United Church of Christ, which is also a freewill offering concert (see information box).
Naples Harp Ensemble repertoire ranges from Vivaldi concertos to a mashup of Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" and music from contemporary composer Philip Glass. This year, attendees can count on both Bach and Beatles, the two being represented by "Ave Maria" and "Hey, Jude."
On the program this year are "Blue Tango" and Louis Moreau Gottschalk's "Bamboula." The event also includes several performances with the ensemble by Kellyn Celtic Dance Academy and vocalist Natalie Stewart.
