Celebrating the 60th anniversary of his debut at the Aula Magna, and his 100th concert there, Canino, a prizewinner at both the 1956 and 1958 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition and ithe 1960 at the Darmstadt competition, has also composed a number of solo and chamber works for piano.[Among the composers who have dedicated works to him are Luciano Berio, Maurice Kagel, Wolfgang Rihm and Iannis Xenakis.  He was the music director of the Venice Biennale from 1986 to 1995.
