We can read below this caricature of the satirical periodic "Ba-Ta-Clan", published June 19, 1869, a little poem :

"Quand dans un ingrat instrument,
On sait, ainsi que lui, faire passer son âme,
Pourquoi presser si fortement
La pédale de la réclame"

(litteral translation) "When, in a thankless instrument,
we can, as he does, transmit our soul,
Why push so strongly
The pedal of advertising "

This periodic, written in french and with a rare freedom of tone, used to have a color front-page illustration, the other pages and illustrations being in Black and White.
