Ecrite pour quatre voix, cette pièce est une mise en musique d'un poème de Thomas Moore (1779-1852).(2) Cette pièce fut probablement inspirée par une descente en canoé que Gottschalk et des amis firent au Canada en 1862.
Elle fut composée pour le Wissahickson Glee Club

Existe aussi pour choeur d'hommes, ce manuscrit se trouvant normalement dans la collection de la Grande nièce de Gottschalk, Lily Glover. Se trouve maintenant certainement à la New York Public Library.
